Air travelers may not be able to use their Illinois drivers’ licenses or other state issued ID cards next year, because they aren’t in compliance with federal law; but the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce says there’s an alternative available.
The U.S. Post Office and the Chamber are offering special times to Chamber members seeking to apply for a passport…since a U.S. passport is compliant with the REAL ID Act.
As of January 22nd, Illinois drivers’ licenses will not be accepted as airport identification; anyone looking to travel by air will need to apply for a passport as soon as possible, in order to get access beyond an airport security checkpoint.
Chamber members can go to the DeKalb Post Office on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Sunday by appointment; Post Office personnel will be available to help them with their passport application.
You can set up an appointment time by calling the Postmaster at (815) 758-6677; registration fees will apply.
